An exciting, three-day event that attracts world renowned experts in the field of shock to discuss current topics, challenging cases, share their expertise, and advance knowledge to a broad audience of providers.
Target
Audience
This symposium is designed for:
-
Cardiologists
-
Advanced heart failure cardiologists
-
Cardiothoracic surgeons
-
Intensivists and critical care physicians
-
Nurses
-
Perfusionists
-
Residents/fellows
-
Advanced practice providers
-

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
-
Explain that cardiogenic shock is a final common pathway of multiple different disease states, and that management should be implemented early, and efficiently.
-
Define best practices in management of shock and the optimal timing and utilization of percutaneous circulatory assist device including counter-pulsation, left ventricular, right ventricular, or biventricular support device for different shock cases.
-
Identify cardiogenic shock research priorities, to conduct clinical trials, and to create large population-based registries to generate quality improvement opportunities.
-
Discuss current clinical evidence on management of post LVAD and transplant shock and outline best practices of high-volume centers from a surgical and medical perspective.
-
Describe the kinetics of cardiogenic shock and patient-device interaction as well as non-device therapeutic options for treatment including hypothermia, revascularization, and inotropes.
-
Describe the impact of pulmonary embolism (PE) and therapies available for hemodynamically unstable PE, including mechanical circulatory support device therapy for stabilization.
-
Review management strategies for the critically ill in medical ICU, such as ARDS management
-
Discuss current and future therapies for valvular heart disease.
Educational Credit Statements
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning (ACHL) and Houston Shock Symposium.
ACHL is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning designates this live activity for a maximum of 19.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Memorial Hermann Health System is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Maintenance of Certification for Physicians
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 19.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.
By providing your ABIM Diplomate number, you consent to have ACHL and/or our educational partners submit your participation in this activity to the ABIM through the ACCME PARS system. ABIM credit will be submitted to PARS on the first day of each month. The last day available to claim MOC credit is November 30, 2024.
*Credit amount is subject to change, upon final review of agenda
Disclosure of Financial Relationships with any Commercial Interest
Guidelines require that learners in CME activities be made aware of all relevant financial relationships affecting the presentation of the faculty member. ACHL ensures that all faculty and staff involved in the planning, development, and implementation of ACHL activities disclose financial relationships held within 24 months and that relevant financial relationships are mitigated before a CME activity occurs. Complete information will be provided to learners prior to the start of the educational activity.
Continued Nursing Education Credits
Memorial Hermann Health System is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Memorial Hermann will designate 4 CNE's for the Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Summit and 15 CNE's for the main Houston Shock Symposium sessions.
